Composting at our Enviro School

Room 9 were responsible for composting this week.  We had to put out the bins around the school on Monday, empty and clean them out on Wednesday and then empty them again, clean them out and put them away on Friday.

We saw lots of compostable items, like banana skins, apple cores, orange peel and left over fruit and vegetables.  We also saw some items that were not compostable, such as plastic bags, whole sandwiches and yoghurt pottles.  It was Kathryn's job to pick that rubbish out of the bins - yuck!

We learned that the fruit flies can be kept at bay by adding a layer of dried leaves on top of the scraps.  And, of course, the leaves are needed in our compost bin too.

No Child Left Inside with Bodie

The Fundamental Skills programme with Bodie is a popular time for the students.  We learn all about the muscle man throw, when to do an overarm throw or an underarm throw and how we can direct the throw by pointing our arm.  We also practise our Key Competencies.

Room 9 do an amazing job of participating.  We relate well to others and manage ourselves during these sessions too.

Have a look at these photos and I think you will agree with me.
