Great start to Term 3

We started the new term by welcoming new students to Nelson Central School with a Mihi Whakatau.

In Room 9 we welcomed our very own new student all the way from Sri Lanka.  We know he will settle in wonderfully.

In maths we are exploring different types of transformation.  Here we are exploringthe number of lines of symmetry these shapes have, using mirrors.

We're pleased to have No Child Left Inside return for another term.  We practised our skills with a pentanque ball, throwing underarm and releasing the ball at the right point so it didn't roll along the ground.

On Thursday we popped across the road to NMIT and were very impressed with the art exhibition by Rose Shepard and NCS students.  Room 9 students really enjoyed seeing the art pieces and explaining their reasons for their choices.

Hāngi for Matariki - yummy

A lot of hard work went into the preparation of the Matariki fundraising event for Tamariki Toa.  300 tickets were sold ahead of time and the fire was lit at 4.30a.m.!!  We all gathered at 12p.m. to celebrate the raising of the kai with waiata.

Well done Matua Huhu and all the helpers.  It was a massive success.

I think you will agree, everyone enjoyed eating it too!

Christine will be missed

At the end of this term we say farewell to Christine Harrison, our wonderful Deputy Principal.  After a 40 year career she is looking forward to a well earned rest.  We know she will miss us, but I don't think it will be as much as we will miss her!

Room 9 were honoured to have a visit from Christine today where we presented her with a book of portraits and messages.

Tosca and Emi had written her a very special message and Bella performed a song she  had composed for Christine.

Go Green for Fragile X

Room 9 should be proud today as some students participated and contributed to the worthy charity, Fragile X New Zealand and supported our own year 6 student, Andre. We looked good in green!

The school raised approximately $250 - Ka Pai!
